Course Description: This course introduces students to the art, craft, and techniques of independent filmmaking with a focus on creating films on a minimal budget. Students will learn the basic principles of film design, foundational elements of film style, and the technical skills necessary to visualize and produce a narrative film. The course emphasizes hands-on learning, enabling participants to use digital cameras, smartphones, and editing software to craft ideas into short films. The goal is to develop confidence and competence in filmmaking, particularly in low-budget and independent contexts.
Objectives:
Demonstrate proper use of cinema equipment and industry-standard terminology.
Create and utilize preproduction documents such as storyboards, shooting scripts, and shot lists.
Write, direct, produce, and broadcast a quality low-budget independent cinema production.
Demonstrate industry-level ability in digital cinema technology through critiques and final projects.
Course Requirements:
Watch assigned films weekly and submit journal reflections.
Participate actively in class discussions and group projects.
Pass mid-term and final exams on filmmaking tools, techniques, and theories.
Complete short films with assigned groups, rotating through various production roles.

SHORT BIOGRAPHY:
Razibul Hossain is an Independent Filmmaker, Cinematographer, Producer, Editor and an Educator from Bangladesh. He made three fictional feature films BALUGHORI (The Sand Clock - 2006), UNADITTYA (Less than Sun God - 2008), and HRIDOYER RONGDHONU (Life in Rainbow - 2017); one feature documentary MRITTU PAREY BARI (Life in the Shores of Death - 2012) and a short film Me and The Nature - 2013.
Razibul is the Founder and Chairman of Asian Institute of Media and Communication – Bangladesh (AIMC). In his professional career, he worked in different Universities, TV stations, Advertisement agency and NGO's.
